Very pleased.
I ordered the Optimus 1000 maintenance kit and a GTX II trigger from Scopes and Ammo on Tuesday, and the package was waiting for me in my mail box when I got home from work on Friday; fast shipping!

Installing the new piston and spring took about 2Ĺ hours, but about a third of the time was spent cobbling together a spring compressor. I had to sacrifice one of my big C clamps, but Iíll have it if I ever need to take a pellet gun apart again. The kit does not include instructions, silicon grease or oil, so you need to do a bit of preparation before diving in. Prior to starting, I watched several Youtube videos which were extremely helpful. Disassembly was straight forward and I had several small zip lock baggies on hand to help ensure none of the little parts would go missing. The new piston is lighter than the original and the spring is noticeably stronger.

Surprisingly, the biggest challenge I encountered in reassembling the gun was getting the large fixed pin that holds the tube end cover back into place. No matter how much I fiddled to get the alignment perfect, it wouldnít go in, so I had to use a large drill bit to clean burrs out of the hole. Donít forget to reinstall the trigger group BEFORE using the spring compressor to push the tube end cover back into position. A thin knife works great to hold the sear up while you push the trigger group down into the slot and then slide it forward.

After reassembling the gun, I did a few test shots - perfect.

My next step was to swap out the stock trigger for the GTX. Having installed one on a Stoeger X10 last year, this was a short job. It was even easier on the Optimus as no filing of the safety linkage is required. The first shot with the new trigger revealed a very light pull with almost no travel. Iíve read some peopleís comments saying not to bother adjusting it, as itís great already. Just because itís so much better, doesnít mean it cannot still be improved. Adjustment instructions are available on the web site. I added a bit of travel with a quarter turn on the front screw, and brought up the second stage with 2 quarter turns on the back screw. Itís important to make all changes a quarter turn at a time between test shots. I now have a perfect 2 stage trigger. It seems crazy to spend $45 for that little piece of metal that probably cost a couple of bucks to make, but it is worth it if you want to have an air rifle that you can shoot accurately. I see some folks have posted trigger modification videos that involve adding washers, but Iíd recommend just biting the bullet and getting a GTX, and be done with it.
